Angel Feeding Birds, a J & J G Low Art Tile for Winter

This tile is from the four seasons series by the J & J G Low Art Tile Works (1887-1902) of Chelsea MA. It represents Winter by an angel feeding the birds seeds, a squirrel eating his on the trunk of a tree. It measures 6" square and 3/8" thick. The back has the impressed marked for the factory and the copyright date of 1883. The tile is covered in a majolica celadon green glaze. The mold is crisp with detail. The condition is excellent with only a couple of flakes on the edges. The highest points of the tile, the headdress and wings, are unworn. Traces or mortar on the back.
