A rare antique tile from the U. S. Encaustic Tile Company (1877-1932) of Indianapolis Indiana showing a portrait of Shakespeare's Hamlet in profile. It is covered in a soft pink rose majolica glaze and measures 6" square. HAMLET is impressed on the front.
The tile has been reclaimed and cleaned of most mortar. It has crazing, a small chip to the top left corner and some chipping and losses on the back from removal.
