AETCO Tubelined Tile of a Pig
Tubelined or Squeezebag decorated tiles are exceedingly rare from the American Encaustic Tile Company, of Zanesville Ohio. The technique, like decorating a cake, was labor intensive. This tile shows a pig in its pen. It has great detail, down to the nails in the fence post. it measures 4 1/8" square and 5/8" thick and made from a cream colored faience clay. Excellent variety of matte glazes. Excellent condition except for a ding on the pig's back thigh.
Although unmarked, this tile was photographed for The Encyclopedia of American Art Tile and can be found in Vol 2 page 55. From my personal collection.
