Vintage Karlsruhe Majolika Tile Sunflowers Wall Plaque
From Karlsruhe's botanical series this tile depicts Summer sunflowers. It measures 12 3/4" tall and 9" wide, the design showing off its thick crackled glass glaze. It has incised holes on the top edge and wire to facilitate hanging. These were meant to be hung on the walls of a home or garden and used like a ceramic painting. They could still be used in an installation too!. The back has an impressed Karlsruhe mark and the code 7393. Designed by Werner Meschede (1925-81) and in production for only 3 years, between 1967-68 and 1988.. It remains in very good condition with one small flake on the edge.
