Antique English Victorian Tile of a Young Woman, Framed.

This sweet antique tile displays a portrait of a young woman with flowers. The image is impressed onto the clay and is filled with glaze. During its time in the kiln the glaze will pool into the lower portions and thin over the higher ones to give the image a photographic effect. The tile measures 6" square. The back has an embossed mark and pencil inscription for J H Barrett & Co. (1896-1924). Roughness around the edges is masked by a wooden gesso frame with an antique gold finish. Framed it measures 8 3/4" square.
