William De Morgan
William De Morgan Flower Tile
A rare William De Morgan tile with a Persian inspired design in the English Arts and Crafts manner. Colored in rich blues and greens it has a central golden floral image. The surface is unworn and shiny. Made from a faience clay the back has an impressed mark for the Early Fulham Period, 1888-1897. It measures 6" square and the surface is in excellent condition but has a chip on the corner.
I have never seen this pattern in person or for sale before and the colors are luscious. The sixth photo is from a page in the book "The Designs of William De Morgan" and shows an installation of tiles in this pattern at the Debenham House, Addison Road, London constructed 1904 - 1907. The last two photos show how this tile can be paired with another tile offered separately for an even more impressive display.
