Karlsruhe Majolica Tile Red Poppies
From Karlsruhe Majolica's mid-century botanical series this tile depicts blooming red poppies. It measures 13 1/4" tall and 9 1/2" wide, the flower petals have a painterly touch to the glaze. It has incised holes on the top edge and wire to facilitate hanging. These were meant to be hung on the walls of a home or garden and used like a ceramic painting or they could still be used in an installation too!. The back has an impressed Karlsruhe mark and the code 7341 designed by Werner Meschede (1925-81) and in production between 1966-78, 88. It has a small flake on the bottom edge as shown in the last photo.
