Flint Faience Tile Cancer Zodiac Swimming Man Bit By Crab

An Art Deco tile by Flint Faience of Flint Michigan. The whimsical zodiac design series is inspired by Mayan characters. This hand decorated tubelined image is for the zodiac sign of Cancer (Jun 21-Jul 22) and shows the character swimming and being bitten by a crab. Measures 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 1/2". Excellent condition. Impressed mark.

This zodiac series was designed by Howard Burton (1881-1950) Art Director and Architect for Flint Faience. A set of these was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1928.
