Flint Faience Tile Scorpio Zodiac Man Stung By Scorpion

An Art Deco tile by Flint Faience of Flint Michigan. The whimsical zodiac design series is inspired by Mayan characters. This hand decorated tubelined image is for the zodiac sign of Scorpio (Oct 23-Nov 21) and shows the character ready to sit on a stump but being stung by a scorpion. Measures 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 1/2". Excellent condition, silicone and chip on back. Impressed mark.

This zodiac series was designed by Howard Burton (1881-1950) Art Director and Architect for Flint Faience. A set of these was displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1928.
