Scenic Tile of Michigan Shoreline by Flint Faience

This large 9" Arts and Crafts tile was made at the Flint Faience Tile Company (1921-1933) in Flint MI. Decorated by hand in a squeezebag technique the scene shows a person standing at a rocky outcropping of northern Michigan on Lake Michigan/Huron. A windswept tree clings to the rocks as the waves crash around it. The tile measures 9" square and 3/4" thick. It was never installed and has a deep clear mark "Flint Faience Tile Co Mich." A few tiny fleck around the edges but otherwise in excellent condition. Most likely a one of a kind commission.

Although the tile company was short lived, it may be better known for making spark plugs for the Detroit auto industry.
