Royal Delft Porceleyne de Fles
Antique Royal Delft Secessionist Tile Porceleyne de Fles
$ 120.00
A pretty geometric tile by Porcelyne de Fles otherwise known as Royal Delft. Designed in cuenca, or raised line, with crystalline matte glazes this tile features a Secessionist design, much in the style of Josef Hoffman. It was the modern interpretation of the period of Art Nouveau leading into the Arts and Crafts and Art Deco eras. This is refereed to as a brick tile as it was designed to be installed. Measures 4 1/8" square, and 1/2" thick. Unsigned, as are most of these tiles meant for installation. The tile has remnants of mortar and a couple of tiny flakes on the edges.
Although Dutch, these tiles were often sold in the USA by the Pardee Tile Company of Perth Amboy, NJ in the 1920's, along with their stock of Grueby tiles.
