Minton Elfin Series Riding the Shrew

This antique tile by Minton is from the Elfin Series. Designed in 1873 this tile is in a brown and cream colorway and depicts an elf riding a shrew. I guess he successfully tamed that shrew. Measures 6" square, 3/8" thick and made from a beige clay body. The back is marked "Minton's China Works, Stoke on Trent". The shiny surface has minimal scratching and a few flakes around the perimeter.
The Elfins series was offered in blue, brown and buff, and black. It's comprised of 12 different images of elves being naughty. This is a great chance to start or fill out a collection of these charming tiles.
