Les Fils de Chemla

Tunisian Les Fils de Chemla Tile in Arts and Crafts Cape Cod Shop Hammered Metal Trivet

$ 195.00

This antique tile made in Tunisia in the early 20th Century with a Moorish design measures 5" square and 5/8" thick. It sits atop a hammered steel Arts and Crafts footed pan with an impressed mark "Trade Mark Cape Cod Shop PAT MAY 2ND 1916" within an impressed cod fish. The tile surface is shiny and unworn with the typical 3 stilt marks. It has a clear mark on the back. The metal has a nice old dark patina, measures 6 3/4" square and 1" tall.

The Cape Cod Shop was near the center of one of  New England's art colonies and worked between the 1890s through the 1930s. It produced handmade metal items with an Arts & Crafts style influence. Besides the main outlet there was also a shop built in 1908 at 30 West 15th Street, in the Flatiron District, New York City.
