Volga Studio Tile California 1920s
A rare tile by the Volga studio by Nina de Volgenski. Made in 1920's Los Angeles. Volga tiles combine the California style with traditional Russian imagery. This tile shows a man rising from the sea. What appears to be clouds are actually birds and ribbons with the name VOLGA in the upper right corner.
The tile measures 5 3/4" square and 1/2" thick. There is an incised hole and wire at the top for hanging. The tile's edges are worn.
